You can have it we have seen that we have a climate problem, but we have a waste problem. Garbage is polluting our oceans, lining city and country roads, and harming animals just trying to go about their day. We can reduce our use of plastic, especially single-use plastics. But the good news is, some companies have figured out how to turn some of that waste—mostly plastic bottles and old clothes—into new clothes and more.

Here, we list the favorites we’ve tried so far. Be sure to check out our other tips like The Best Recycled Bags , The Best Everyday Products Made From Recycled Materials , or The Best Recycled Products .

    How Plastic Becomes Fiber

Many companies use consumer plastic, which means that it comes from plastic that has been used and recycled. Pre-consumer means that it comes from waste in the production before the person buys.

Plastic bottles are collected, dried, torn, and turned into small bags. The plastic then passes through a dewatering machine, which spins and pulls it like taffy to turn it into fibers. This still uses energy and resources, but produces less waste. Everyone needs clothes, to be permanent.
