As certified Halloween girlie, I have always spent the most difficult days leading up to Christmas mourning the loss of an evil spirit. But I’ve found one thing that helps me stay out of the game season: the Advent calendar. When I spend just a moment, every day, with a special little gift or gift, I stop feeling like I’m dirty and cutting down all the trees and wrapping presents long enough to start enjoying the ride.
The popular Advent calendar reflects the Christian tradition of counting the weeks and days leading up to Christmas. These calendars have numbered drawers or windows—one for each day, or several days—that hold a small toy or chocolate. You can buy one at any grocery store for a few bucks. These choices are often religious, and not fun. It may be fun to open, but the packaging will be budget, and the chocolate inside is gritty and waxy.
Recently, the world of Advent calendars has expanded beyond chocolate. There are STEM-themed calendars for kids, calendars with classic European candy, and calendars with CBD gummies for stressed-out adults.
Here, I have listed my favorite Advent calendars. And even though the advent of Christianity arrived a week ago, don’t worry; Most calendars come with only 12 days. And who needs rules? Just add some inspiration when you start late!
