Alice Capsey will miss the rest of England’s tour of the West Indies after fracturing her collarbone in the opening one-day international.
The 18-year-old helped England to a massive 142-run win with 17 assists while batting, but was injured in the sixth over of West Indies’ reply as he tried to bowl the ball over the boundary.
Capsey was taken to hospital in Antigua after initial tests, and the ECB later confirmed the nature of the injury and that he will now miss the remaining two matches of the ODI series, along with the five T20Is that follow.
There is no suggestion that Capsey is in doubt about the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, which is being played in South Africa in February.
An ECB statement said: “Alice Capsey was injured on the field during the first ODI against West Indies Women. After further investigation, she has fractured her left collarbone and will be out for the rest of the tour.”
“Capsey will now return home to the UK.”
The Surrey striker took to Instagram recently, insisting they are “back stronger than ever”.
Having become England’s youngest player to make a T20I half-century at the age of 17 last summer, Capsey established himself as one of the game’s most exciting figures.
Capsey, who could become an England player with his ability to break the deadlock, was handed his first England international contract in November.
He arrived with England in the West Indies after impressing against the Melbourne Stars in Australia’s Big Bash, with an unbeaten 80 against the Hobart Hurricanes and further highlighting his potential.
