Tottenham have made a late move to sign Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal even though the player is close to joining Everton.
Sky Sports news He said on Monday that Danjuma will join managerless Everton on Tuesday. The move was still expected despite the sacking of Frank Lampard, who played a major role in the deal.
However, the Netherlands will now travel to London for talks with Spurs.
The 25-year-old decided to join Everton despite many offers and interest elsewhere. He is aware of the difficulties the club is facing in the Premier League amid turmoil but he wanted to test himself and take a risk.
The deal with Everton was supposed to be a straight loan until the end of the season with no option or purchase.
Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest were interested in bringing in Danjuma after Villarreal gave him permission to speak to clubs which sparked interest.
‘Big disappointment for Everton’
Sky Sports News reporter Vinny O’Connor:
“Just when you think Everton fans have had enough, this happens.
“Danjuma was expected at Finch Farm, he agreed to join, and the medical was completed over the weekend.
“They have asked for some assurances from the football club about where they are going once Frank Lampard has been sacked.
“Everything seems to be ready for Villarreal’s loan announcement today.
“At the end of the eleventh hour, Spurs came and promised to take him on loan, he did not arrive at Finch Farm instead, he was on his way to Spurs to negotiate.
“It will be a huge disappointment for Everton if it goes through. They thought they had found their man. They wanted to find ways to attack. Lampard tried hard to bring him to Everton.”
Tottenham are still in talks to sign Porro
Tottenham are reportedly still in talks with Sporting about a possible right-back role Pedro Porro.
Spurs have increased their interest in signing him as soon as he is cold because Sporting insist on paying him everything they release him.
Signing a right-back has been a priority for Antonio Conte in January and he wants to sign Porro ahead of schedule.
