In 2017 the Taliban is generating more revenue than ever before and has increased their territory by 244%, from 82,000 hectares in 2001 to 201,000 hectares by the end of 2016. Meanwhile, the US homeland is now facing an “opioid/heroin epidemic” from the same drugs the Taliban grows and produces.
The announcement comes nearly 3 weeks after a separate United Nations investigation concluded that the Syrian government was also behind chemical attacks from 2014 into August 2016.
