Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Mattia Binotto’s departure from Ferrari has not come as a surprise even to their “super car” in 2022, and insists he has not been approached to join the Scuderia as a replacement.
Binotto will leave Ferrari at the end of the year after four seasons as team boss of Formula 1’s most famous and fraught outfit.
While 2022 was Italy’s best year in terms of management – finishing second in the league with four wins – it was also full of mistakes in performance. Binotto resigned, although it has been confirmed that this was Ferrari’s decision.

Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali has sympathized with former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto and hopes the team can find the right solution moving forward.
“Obviously it’s Ferrari’s choice. I think he’ll be the sixth team head coach I’ve been in front of what I’ve been at Red Bull!
“Obviously it’s difficult for him. He had a great car this year, he was definitely very competitive.”
Ferrari hopes to hire a new team principal at the beginning of the new year, and Sky Sports news understands Fred Vasseur, the current boss of the Ferrari-linked Alfa Romeo team, is set to take over.

It is also understood that Ferrari heard Horner about the part.
The European, however, had no interest in leaving Red Bull, having just led them to their first F1 championship since 2013.

McLaren boss Zak Brown said he felt Binotto’s exit was painful.
“I don’t know how Ferrari works,” he said. “It seemed to me that Mattia did a great job. He was very competitive this year.
“In my opinion, consistency and getting a team to work for a long time will lead to better results.”
