A thief got more than he bargained for when he stole a hearse in Illinois – with one body in it – before tearing the car apart and dumping the body 100 miles away. Chicago way.
The car, which originally had the body of an unidentified man in the back, was stolen from Collins & Stone Funeral Home in Rockford on Saturday afternoon. That person’s name had not been released as of Tuesday.
The next day, last Monday, the car arrived in Chicago, but by this time the body inside had already disappeared, according to the tweet and the Rockford Police Department.

The body was not found until a week after the van was stolen from South Chicago.
Less than a week later, “the body of the deceased in the stolen car was found” in South Chicago, about two hours, 104 kilometers from where it was stolen.
Officials say an anonymous 911 call alerted law enforcement to the body, which was dumped in a back alley behind an abandoned home. CBS News Chicago reports.
The body was exposed, leading the police to believe that the body had been removed from the bag it was in before being taken down.

“Heck – stole the body?” A shocked neighbor told the site, adding that he “felt sorry” for the deceased’s family.
Authorities Search for Suspect, Target But No Arrest Tuesday
It is unclear how the hearse was stolen, and whether the carjacker knew that a body might be in the back of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, Rockford police have released photos of the suspect, who was last seen wearing black clothing and all black clothing except for white gloves.
No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
