Darrell Brooks On Wednesday he received six sentences for 700 years in prison after he was found guilty of driving a car into a crowd of people who celebrated Christmas and killed six people and injured many others.

Judge Gives Outrageously Long Sentence, No Chance for Longer Supervision
Judge Jennifer Dorow handed down the sentence after two days of hearings from the victims and their families, removing the possibility of her facing six counts of murder, according to CNN.
The verdicts will be held consecutively, he said.

Judge Dorow added another 700 years to the remaining 70 counts, with a sentence of 17.5 years on 61 counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.
Dorow didn’t hold back on handing down the sentences, saying he has “no regrets at all” and that “no one is safe from you.”

“You don’t feel sorry for anything you do. “You don’t feel sorry for anyone,” said Dorow. “Truthfully, Mr. Brooks, no one is safe from you.”
Meanwhile, Brooks spoke in court for more than two hours, saying he still struggles to understand why the death happened.

“Why, why,” said Brooks. How can life be so far from the way it should be? Regardless of what many people may think about me, about who I am, about my family, about my beliefs, I know who I am. God knows who I am, and I don’t have any angry words.

Brooks went on to say that he was “not going to shoot” anyone because he wanted to take the “high road,” before citing the loyalty of Waukesha District Attorney Susan Opper. He also said that he will not respect “the way you have done your job” and says that his mistakes did not affect him.
Brooks’ grandmother, Mary Edwards, said she prayed for a “sincere and humble apology,” before apologizing “to the people who have been deeply hurt by what has happened, the tragedy that my grandson has caused.”

Brooks stood up for himself and ended up offering a one-time apology, adding that no one could see the sorrow he was feeling.
“I want you to know that I’m sorry for what happened, I’m sorry that you can’t see what’s in my heart, that you can’t see the sadness that I have,” he told the court. “That you cannot count all the tears I have shed this year.”
Brooks Family Raises Mental Health Concerns, Judge Immediately Suspends
Brooks’ family tried to speak out, but Judge Dorow immediately shut them down, saying mental health issues were not a factor in his murder.
Dorow cited four mental health tests in which he said Brooks understands the difference between right and wrong, yet has no sympathy for anyone, he said.

“Do insane people sometimes do really bad things?” They do. This is not one of those cases,” said Dorow. “There are many, many times, good people do bad things, but there are times when bad people do bad things.
Brooks Charged With Domestic Violence Charges And Acquitted Weeks Before Parade Killing
Dorow went on to tell Brooks “there is no drug or treatment for heart disease that goes after bad.”
Brooks said he plans to appeal his decision.
He was previously charged with domestic violence after a run-in with a woman who claimed to be the mother of his child, according to court documents.
At the hearing, which took place less than two weeks before the attack, Brooks was released from jail on $1,000 bail.
Prosecutors later agreed that the bail was “inappropriately low,” CNN reported.
