Once a well kept secret, the city of Dauphin Island, AL is slowly becoming a popular pet-friendly vacation rental destination for many travelers. Dauphin Island, also known as the sunset capital of Alabama, is at the head of the pack when it comes to pet-friendly vacation home rentals. The majority of the island’s rental houses are now pet-friendly and many are on the Gulf beach.
A recent article by Petcha referenced a “traveling with pets” study conducted by TripAdvisor. The study indicated that 53 percent of the respondents who own pets, travel with them. Dauphin Island’s beaches are accommodating these pet owners with pet-friendly beaches and houses. The local economy is reaping the rewards from this action.
In addition to the pet-friendly atmosphere, the island boasts a family-friendly feel without the commercialization. Rental houses on the Gulf are usually priced beyond the budget for many families. However, it’s common to find a four bedroom, three bath house for $1000 per week during the off-season and in the $3,000 per week range during the peak summer season. An example we found is a newer Dauphin Island rental house named Walkin’ on Sunshine. It appears you have to put your name in early to rent this pet-friendly house, but reviews indicate it’s well worth the wait.
Dauphin Island is also one of the few cities located along the Gulf of Mexico where a newer beach house can be purchased for under $500,000. Our research led us to find a newly constructed four bedroom, two bath beach house in Dauphin Island for $449,000. The house is listed on Zillow and is steps from the Gulf, has Gulf access and great views. Click here for more information.
