An explosion inside a mosque killed at least 32 people and injured around 150 others in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, adding that most of the injured were policemen who had gathered for afternoon prayers.
The mosque is located inside a compound that includes the district police headquarters and the anti-terrorist department, Peshawar police chief Ijaz Khan said on Monday.
The possibility of a suicide bomb cannot be ruled out, he said, adding that there are explosives inside the mosque.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blast that tore through the crowded mosque and caused a wall to collapse.
The building is located in the most protected area of the city. There were at least 260 people inside, police officer Sikandar Khan said.
“Part of the building had collapsed and several people believed they were under it,” he said.
