Article 5 of Yellowstone season 5 begins with another flashback. John is about to go out with Rip and Rowdy. Beth walks up and Rowdy fires his gun asking for a kiss. Beth struts past Rowdy straight at Rip. He tells Rip to be careful. “I’ll see you when you come back,” says Beth. Rip laughs, “I’m not hard to find.”
Today, Beth is still interested in the past. “Do you ever think about us?” Beth asks Rip. He replies, “We are all I think.” He is talking about when they were children. “I’m thinking now. “I think about tomorrow, but I don’t think too much about yesterday,” says Rip. Beth admits that “yesterday is what ate me up.”

Beth confronts her father about giving Summer a favor. John explains that he just commuted Summer’s sentence, and is in jail for the rest of it. He thinks he could use Summer when it comes to understanding how the dead wolves can get out of hand. Beth believes that this is a bad idea to go around at the end of the day.
Jamie Digs Himself a Big Hole
Monica found Kayce crying on their balcony. He admits that he is worried about Monica, her life, and her place in the world. Monica doesn’t want Kayce to quit, but Kayce doesn’t want the job to come between them. Monica tells Kayce that John called them and invited them to the meeting. Monica thinks this will be a good break for everyone.
Beth finds Rip trying to put everything together. He starts to think about going alone. Rip doesn’t think it’s difficult because it’s 2 days of horseback riding and the meaning of inanimate objects. Beth defends herself, and waits for Rip to ask her out.
Jamie continues to find ways to get himself into trouble. Sarah appeared in his office. He says that what happened between them was not artistic. Sarah calls Jamie out of whatever is going on between them. Jamie clearly thinks that Sarah has ulterior motives since being in a relationship with her would prevent her from suing the government against Market Equities.

Jamie points out that the government hires foreign lawyers to prosecute cases, so if that’s his idea, he failed. Jamie (and the rest of us) don’t know what Sarah is up to, but she makes sure she enjoys it. She shows off her sexy underwear in Jamie’s public office.
Beth & Summer Have A Bloody, Brutal Battle
The Duttons have a family dinner with John, Beth, Rip, Carter, Kayce, Tate, and Monica, along with Summer and John’s assistant. Beth doesn’t hesitate to make dinner difficult by challenging Summer. Summer doesn’t help herself at all, and asks Gator about the meat he’s serving. At one point, Monica starts laughing because everything was so difficult.
Beth asks Summer to come outside. At the same time, he hits Summer hard. Summer fights back, calling Beth “a proud, spoiled 40-year-old.” They get into a brutal, knockdown, drag fight out on the lawn. John thinks it’s time to get this out of their system.
“Nothing leaves your daughter’s system, sir,” Rip says. He left to check on Beth and Summer outside. The battle is still going strong. Rip scolds them for being so stupid. “Do you think you can get the other person to respect your opinion?” he is asking them. She also asks Beth if these are really the values she wants to teach Carter.
Rip doesn’t let Summer have it easy, either. He tells her to “shut the f**k and say thank you” or leave. He emphasizes that both must find a way to get along. The thing is, both of them don’t want to give up. Rip forces them to go old school, punch. They keep throwing punches until Summer starts crying. He calls a pact, and Beth helps him.

“This is my castle. You’re going to show respect to me and everyone in it,” Beth tells Summer. Summer claps, “How much respect do I get?” Beth replies, “You get what you give.” As they head home, Summer thinks they should all clean up. Beth doesn’t hide what she does. “Let them look,” she says.
But not everyone feels the same way. When everyone returns to the dinner table, John excuses everyone because he can’t stop to look at them. As they finish eating, Beth pulls a tooth.
John Opens Up About His Children
John and Rip talk after a violent fight between Beth and Summer. John thinks Beth is just getting older. “It feels so freeing,” says John. She tells Rip that she has one child that she misses (Lee), another child that she feels sorry for (Kayce), and one that she regrets (Jamie). “But that girl, that child I admire,” says John.
Early in the morning, Summer admits that she doesn’t know what to do after John leaves. Beth advises Summer to walk around the farm. It might help him better understand Mr. Dutton. Monica said goodbye to Kayce and Tate telling Kayce to “take care” of their son as he is the only one she has. “Yeah, we’ll fix this,” Kayce told Monica.
John is leading the way to gather. Monica cries as she watches them go. “If it doesn’t make you cry to see your family leave, maybe you shouldn’t have one,” Monica says to Summer through tears.
