AlphaTauri will be the fourth team to reveal their new look for the 2023 season, with AT04 in red to confirm the partnership with new sponsor PKR Orlen; F1 rookie Nyck de Vries will join Yuki Tsunoda as the team look to improve on a disappointing ninth season.

AlphaTauri revealed the latest information for the 2023 Formula 1 season at an exciting launch in New York City.

Their AT04 car has the same look as its predecessor, with major changes and the addition of red, especially on the rear wing, to reflect their partnership with new sponsor PKN Orlen.

Saturday’s unveiling took place in Manhattan alongside AlphaTauri Fashion’s 2023 Autumn/Winter launch, in conjunction with New York Fashion Week.

The Red Bull sister team will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 2022 campaign, which saw them finish ninth in the constructors’ championship.

The Italian team has welcomed F1 rookie Nyck de Vries for 2023, following the departure of Pierre Gasly to Alpine, while Yuki Tsunoda remains with the team for his third season of racing.

“We learned a lot from the AT03 during its development and a lot of that learning has carried over into the redesign of the AT04 to address some of the weaknesses we identified in last year’s car,” said AlphaTauri chief technical officer Jody Egginton. .

“Simply put, we were a little underpowered compared to our biggest rivals and there was an opportunity to slow down a lot.”

    What’s new in 2023 cars?

While there are no rule changes for next year as there were for 2022, there are subtle changes to the rules and cars that teams can take advantage of.

The most common is the height of the ride. This is lifting the cars up to reduce the ‘porpoising’ collision that affected the teams – especially Mercedes – in 2022.

This is done by raising the bottom edge and throat, while the edge of the diffuser is also hardened. There is also an additional sensor for better monitoring of porpoising.

    February 16 Alpine London

While this is mostly for safety reasons and is expected to cost teams time due to the firmness of the floor, it could also reduce the field and length of climb that is thought to be the key to Red Bull and Ferrari’s 2023 cars.

Some of the car’s changes are related to banned designs such as Aston Martin’s rear wing and Mercedes’ front wing from 2023, and other safety enhancements.

For example, roll hoops were promoted following Zhou’s massive crash at Silverstone last year.
