Good Morning football contributor Jamie Erdahl talks to Her Huddle about the challenges and highlights from his first year as host of the award-winning NFL show.

Jamie Erdahl has become a friendly and familiar face, name, voice for NFL fans over the past year, since becoming the new host of Good Morning Football on July 25.

Erdahl replaces Kay Adams on the hugely popular, Emmy award-winning show, which airs on weekday afternoons in the UK, live on Sky Sports NFLand is about to celebrate the end of his first season of the game.

It appears on the latest episode of His huddle (available as a podcast below), Erdahl talked about the challenges that have come with the project, as well as the great joy he finds in it.

“It’s been a lot of nonsense — and, to be honest, a lot of it doesn’t fit the show,” Erdahl said.

“I moved my family when I started working. We moved halfway across the country and we were in a temporary apartment for a while when the show started.

“I was thinking about a whole new skill set, new people to work with, a new network. And there were two international tours between all of that, then the playoffs.

“It’s boring Peter [Schrager] and Kyle [Brandt] warned Jason [McCourty] and I that by January everyone feels very fried. Right now, we all kind of have each other’s backs. “

“I know the NFL. I know football. So when people follow me online, and they do – sometimes it makes me harder than other times – but I always have to remember that ‘you know what you’re doing.’. There’s a reason they hired me.”

And it’s Schrager and Brandt that Erdahl credits, who have been with the show since its inception in 2016 to help make the transition as easy as possible for him and his new partner, former Super Bowl winner Jason McCourty.

“Getting to know these guys; I really enjoy Jason, Peter and Kyle every day,” Erdahl said, describing his performance on the show.

“I’m so glad, looking back, that Jason and I started on the same day.

“Peter and Kyle have been on the show for six years, and they could have been like big brothers – ‘we know how things are and that’s how they are’ – but they weren’t.

“They were like, ‘let’s make this our own show.’ We had a great time together, the four of us, in London and in Germany. [for the NFL’s International Games in 2022].

Kyle Brandt, Jamie Erdahl, Jason McCourty, and Peter Schrager host Good Morning Football live by the Thames in London in September.

“We just have a lot of fun. It’s easy to hang out and what you see is what you get, on TV and during commercial breaks.”

Erdahl joins Good Morning Football after serving as the SEC’s lead college football reporter for CBS, where he covered the Boston Red Sox in baseball and the Boston Bruins in ice hockey.

Regarding the transition from line to studio, Erdahl talked about the obstacles he faced.

“I’m still finding my pace and my confidence to say, ‘I have this idea and people want to hear it’, and to have that natural confidence instead of being here because they want to see Nick Saban or Bill Belichick.

“It’s a different way of looking at it and it’s an established art in itself.”

He added: “I am a competitive person.

“When you’re a sideline reporter, you don’t have to pick, predict, and stamp your name on ideas.

“On this show, you say things and they come alive, people jump on board. You have to be comfortable with the answers, let them flow from you.

“Being uncomfortable about making a mistake, and walking away from it, has been one of the hardest things. Because I don’t like making mistakes.”

Regarding another piece of advice for those who want to follow in his footsteps in the industry, Erdahl added: “I always say, ‘do all the work’. Even if it reinforces this, ‘I know I don’t want to do this. ‘.

“It helps you make life decisions about your path and what you need to do.

“Curiosity. Basics: How does your camera work? How does the audio work?

“It will make a better broadcaster, and a better person to work around – to appreciate what other people do.”
