Kevin Sinfield has completed the fourth day of the Ultra 7 in 7 Challenge
Kevin Sinfield’s latest motor neurone disease fundraiser was approaching half a million pounds as he completed day four of the Ultra 7 in 7 Challenge in Stokesley.
Sinfield’s total bid, as he bids to run 40 miles for seven consecutive days before arriving at Old Trafford for Saturday’s semi-final of the Rugby League World Cup, stood at £461,957.65 after arriving in Stokesley.
Starting in Chester-le-Street, Sinfield’s route included a stop at the Riverside Stadium where he was welcomed onto the pitch and given a signed Middlesbrough shirt to raise funds for five MND charities.
After completing his latest 40km leg, Sinfield paid tribute to the people of the North East who braved the bad weather to come out and support him.
“It is worth noting that we have gone through a very difficult working environment and I think it affected all of us, especially the high cost of living, the number of people who came out with five and 10 and 20 years was unbelievable. “Said Sinfield. BBC Breakfast.
“We know people are finding it difficult in many of these areas but the generosity, support and kindness has been amazing.”
The 42-year-old former Leeds captain was inspired by his good friend and former team-mate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in late 2019, as well as former Scotland rugby union player Doddie Weir and former Bradford City boss Stephen Darby. , who live with the disease.
On Thursday, Sinfield will depart from the North East and complete the 41 mile journey from Stokesley to York, passing through Thirsk and Easingwold before arriving at York Minster at around 3.30pm.
Sinfield is still on course to end his on-field challenge at Old Trafford during the men’s final between Australia and Samoa.
His latest fundraising challenge will mainly benefit the MND Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity’s appeal to build the Rob Burrow Center for MND in Leeds.
Scottish rugby union chief Doddie Weir greeted Kevin Sinfield on one of his latest fundraising challenges.
There will also be donations to MND Scotland, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer MND Foundation and the 4ED campaign, in support of former Gloucester and Leicester Tigers rugby player Ed Slater, who was recently diagnosed with the disease.
In late 2020, Sinfield raised £2.7million for MND charities by running seven marathons in seven days and a further £1m was raised in November 2021 after running 101 miles in 24 hours.
