A young Kenyan boy has become popular for his ability to direct people to a metro station.
Doha, Qatar – Abubakr Abbass, a 23-year-old Kenyan, has emerged as the biggest fan – and accidental TV fan – of the international soccer tournament in Qatar.
Seated in a tennis-umpire’s chair and wearing a foam thumb, he leads hundreds of fans visiting the old market – called Souq Waqif – to the nearest metro station with the help of his trusty megaphone.
His helpful advice, “Metro? Let’s go this way. Metro? This way,” has now become a catchphrase.
“We love Him; we love metro man,” another fan said, pointing to Abbass.
“I saw him on TikTok. I thought it was really funny. He makes me laugh; it’s an easy job,” added the young fan wearing a Chelsea football shirt.
People who visit the famous Souq Waqif are always chatting with Abbass, doing back and forth and creating pantomime-like scenes.
Not much is known about Abbass, but the social media sensation has been praised for bringing attention to an unusual project.
“He’s really enjoying his work”, said one impressed fan.
Abbass is now encouraging other workers to join in the fun, many of whom are now donning their foam finger and giving fans directions in creative ways.
