It’s not uncommon to hear of people using their friends or family members on Netflix. In fact, since multiple people could be logged in at the same time, password sharing was a safe way to access the ad service for a long time.
However, Netflix recently announced plans to start cracking down on password sharing, and it all caused a bit of a stir on social media.
The Guidelines Meant to Prohibit the Sharing of Secrets
The new guidelines appeared recently on the website of the advertising service. To set the tone, the top page of the guidelines says, “The Netflix account is for people who live together in the same household.”
Netflix continues to note that, when the user tries to log into the account outside the first home, verification may be necessary. This confirmation will send a link with a 4-digit code to the email address of the original account holder, and this code must be entered to watch Netflix from the device in question.
In addition, it is noted that “verification may be required from time to time.” While this may cause problems for people using third-party accounts, it will also affect subscribers when they try to use Netflix on the go.
Old Tweet Returns to Haunt Netflix: ‘LIES!’
As one can imagine, people were very angry about these new guidelines. However, more outrage came after a 2017 tweet resurfaced, showing how Netflix has changed over the years.
Notably, Netflix jumped on the scene at the time and wrote, “Love is sharing a password.”
Love is a shared password.

Check out what other users have to say below.
Turn off Netflix. They just lost my business. “Password sharing” is nothing, it’s called password sharing. This is backward greed for capitalist greed to squeeze more money out of us. People pay for passwords and use them everywhere they go.

It’s not that Netflix’s new privacy sharing rules are bad, there are many ways to prevent people living in the same house from accessing their Netflix, you don’t have to jump through hoops to use your service.

I wonder how many people have switched to pirating Netflix pointing the middle finger to the new Netflix password sharing BS.
He has become one of the most influential players after being the undisputed rock star for many years.

Even Simone Biles said she could block Netflix, saying, “I’m lazy and I hate re-entering passwords.” Related!

A TikToker who goes by @crutches_and_spice added to the conversation by declaring the fallout to be “the top 10 ‘f**k round and get it’ episode we’ve ever seen.”
In particular, he said that Netflix will be more affected by the situation of the beginning, because few people have access to the platform, which makes the noise less.
@njombo_ndi_spice #stitch with @milehighbrendan @peacock has better ones anyway, tbh…
