Barnsley continued their charge with a 2-1 win over fellow chasers Peterborough.
A brilliant minute from Luca Connell gave Michael Duff’s men an early lead as they secured their fourth consecutive Sky Bet League One win.
The Irishman’s first goal in English football was worth the wait as he controlled the ball expertly with his chest before curling a half-volley from 25 yards past Posh keeper Lucas Bergstrom.
The hosts took it upon themselves in the 21st minute when Jack Taylor arrived in the box and headed a right-footed ball from Kwame Poku into the far post.
Posh striker Jonson Clarke-Harris found himself in a goal-scoring position to deny Jack Aitchison to restore Barnsley’s lead before firing over with his chance at the other end.
Taylor then headed home Joe Ward’s corner with the final strike of the first half, but the contest was ended by Adam Phillips just after the hour mark.
Barnsley’s hot man scored his fifth goal in his last six games in the 61st minute when he received a great assist from Bergstrom, who fired into his own net.
It was a costly mistake that Posh could not answer for as they slumped to a fourth successive defeat in all competitions.
