Brazil started their World Cup campaign in style on Thursday. It wasn’t an easy win over Serbia but they got there in the end.
After the first half, Brazil took the lead in the 62nd minute. Vinicius Junior’s shot was well blocked by the Serbian keeper, but the rebound fell to Richarlison who naturally headed in.
Ten minutes later, Richarlison looked after Vinicius Junior on a low cross, rounded and flying in the middle of the plane he launched a shot that flew into the ground.
In Richarlison, Brazil got their show.
However, Serbia deserved credit for their performance. For an hour, they held Brazil comfortably. Their attacking threat was limited but their control and drive was commendable.
Brazil is expected to be a strong contender in this year’s World Cup. Their team is full of good attacks and threats, with star player Neymar looking to win the competition.
Serbia has made its third appearance at the World Cup as an independent nation after participating in the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
On Monday, Brazil will face Switzerland and Serbia will face Cameroon in the next Group G match.
