James Wilson’s second goal at Port Vale gave them a 2-0 win at Plymouth, ending the Pilgrims’ nine-game home run.
Vale took the lead in the 65th minute when Nathan Smith’s goal was turned in by goalkeeper Michael Cooper and Vale striker Wilson.
Within six minutes Vale had extended their lead when Wilson fired home after replacing Dennis Politic down the left.
Niall Ennis’s shot soon beat Vale keeper Jack Stevens but it blazed low as Argyle piled on late, to no avail.
Earlier, Danny Butterworth’s volley in the eighth minute was converted by Cooper.
Five minutes later Cooper was called into action again, hitting another shot from Butterworth after cutting in from the left.
Bali Mumba almost opened Argyle’s account four minutes into the first half, firing inches after an exchange with Ennis in the box.
Ennis had a great shot which was well saved by Stevens before striker Ryan Hardie cut the ball over the bar.
