England completed their Quad Series campaign with a 49-42 win over South Africa as Jade Clarke made her 200th appearance for the Roses.

Give Fadoju, who was not even born when Clarke made her debut in 2003, was named Player of the Match to watch her performance when England returned to Cape Town for the Netball World Cup later this year.

Jess Thirlby’s changes came into the limelight as his seven-point conversion in the second quarter saw England fight back against the Proteas to take a 25-23 lead into the third quarter.

Clarke and Helen Housby returned to the court in the third before Fadoju produced a key conversion to break South Africa’s dominance as the teams were tied 11-11 before the final 15 minutes.

The return of Layla Guscoth helped shore up the Roses’ defense in the closing stages while Eleanor Cardwell was again on the mend to help Housby make it five goals to her side.

Fadoju disrupted South Africa’s response with a superb third-half effort before England took the lead five minutes from time, Thirlby’s side eventually winning by seven points.

“I’m proud of the win today, it was very important for us and we wanted to finish the campaign with a win playing Roses and Roses,” said England captain Natalie Metcalf.

“We talked about the time of the game, we have climbed the game and allowed the teams to come back, it happened again today but we talked about it, we called it a name and we say “we want to continue to lead, I want to win’ and have a winning mentality so for us it is that we can do it and do it under pressure. “

New Zealand will face Australia in the Quad Series final after beating England on Tuesday night.
