Thriston Lawrence takes the lead in the final round of the South African Open on 18 under par.

The home favorite shot 67 minutes in a row at Blair Atholl, six birdies and a lone layover as his continued streak kept him from playing partner Clement Sordet.

The Frenchman carded a 66 for the second day in a row and produced the highlight of the day when his tee shot from the back 10th green spun hard from left to right and rolled for a brilliant eagle.

Sordet added seven birdies to overcome bogey and double, opening the afternoon over third-place Jens Fahrbring at 12 under.

Lawrence holed a hole in the rink for the opening birdie and served up a superb four before taking a polished chip follow-up with a stunning long birdie putt.

His one shot came on the ninth, but he was up on 13, when Sordet missed a perfect birdie putt, before both players completed birdie-birdies to set up the final round.

Fahrbring racked up five birdies to stave off consecutive bogeys at the sixth and seventh, while Wu Ashun’s flawless 67 lifted him to 11 under and fourth place.

Wilco Nienaber, Martin Simonsen and leading scorer Christian Maas were all at least 10, with Simonsen’s 65 the best of the day.

Ockie Strydom, second on the night and playing with Lawrence and Sordet, returned to eight after a disappointing shot of 75 – 12 more than his record on Friday, although he finished with back-to-back birdies.
