Tia Mowry has been an open book since their divorce Cory Hardrict in early October. Despite being on the verge of ending their 14-year marriage, Mowry has previously said they are at peace. Her latest public comment about their split revealed how she views their relationship now that it’s over.
I’m on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, Tia explained that she knew it was over after thinking too much about her happiness.
“I feel like women, we tend to look out for everyone else’s happiness, to make sure that everyone else is okay, meaning our children, our friends, our family. But in the end, it’s about self-love, and when you start loving yourself, love yourself, know your worth, know your importance, and suddenly, there is an awakening.”
Even if it’s a trip “it’s not easy,” Tia said, “it’s very important.” Mowry shared that she began to recognize her feelings in 2018. Her self-reflection came after the death of her grandmother and the killing of Tamera Mowry’s granddaughter by marriage, Alaina Housley, in a mass shooting in California. The deaths combined with the treatment caused his ah-ha moment.
Both of them [grandmother and Alaina] at the same time..there was just an ah-ha moment in me where I said, you have to go inside, see what is happening with your happiness, life is short, let’s start working and focus on. what’s most important here is at the end of the day your peace, your happiness, and your happiness,” said Tia.
Tia Sees Marriage As “Winning” Despite Family Breakup
Mowry filed for divorce on October 4–seeking physical and legal custody of their children Cree, 11, and Cairo, 4. She also asked the judge to end the possibility of awarding spousal support to her or Cory, recognizing their differences. The two got married in 2008 and remarried in 2013. He confirmed the end of his relationship with a social statement.
“These decisions will not be easy, nor will they be sad. We will keep our friendship as we raise our beautiful children together. I am very grateful for being happy together,” wrote Tia.
A few days later, Cory shut down the idea that their infidelity led to their divorce.
Speaking TODAY, Tia explained that their marriage was successful despite their divorce.
“My family went well. I see it as an education when you are in college or high school. You’re learning, you’re growing, you’re changing, you’re creating, and I was able to create with Cory beautiful, wonderful children. And at the end of the course, and at the end, there is graduation. There is a celebration, that’s how I see it now,” he said.
The Sister, Sister The star also explained that longevity does not necessarily guarantee a successful marriage.
“At the end of the day, it’s ‘they’re happy, they’re doing well, they’re growing.’ “I think it’s very important, it’s not about staying at something because no matter how long you stay, then you’ve won,” said Tia.
